Monrovia – In a bid to heal divisions within the Liberty Party, Acting Chair Madam Rugie Barry has spearheaded a nationwide “Reconciliation Meeting” aimed at reuniting leaders and members after a prolonged period of internal conflict.

On Saturday, October 12, Madam Barry led a delegation of party executives from the national headquarters in a daylong “One Liberty Party Meeting” with the leadership of the Grand Bassa chapter.

In an exclusive interview with a local radio station in Buchanan, Madam Barry spoke about the deep divisions that emerged under the leadership of Musa Bility. She emphasized that reconciliation has been her primary focus since assuming her role.

“Uniting the party’s leaders and members is crucial for rebranding the Liberty Party ahead of the 2029 elections. We cannot continue to dwell on conflicts that have tarnished our image,” Madam Barry stated.

She revealed that the reconciliation process, which started on October 12 in Grand Bassa, will culminate in a “reconciliation agreement” among party leaders and members across the country. Following this agreement, the party plans to determine its candidate for the 2029 elections at an upcoming convention.

Liberty Party General Secretary Jacob Smith praised Madam Barry’s leadership, acknowledging that reuniting the party would honor the legacy of its founding political leader, the late Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine. Smith expressed confidence that despite its past challenges, the Liberty Party remains a strong contender for the 2029 general elections.

The reconciliation meeting concluded on a positive note, with smiles and renewed optimism from party executives representing both Grand Bassa and Montserrado counties. They embraced the opportunity to open a new chapter for the Liberty Party as it prepares for future elections.
