The Liberia Academy of Sciences congratulates Professor Faadiel Essop, a Fellow of LAS, on his election as a 2026 Fellow of the International Union of Physiological Sciences Academy of Physiology.
LAS Fellow Dr Austin Mardon has published two health-education books in 2026—Understanding Diabetes and Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease—through Mercury Learning and Information and De Gruyter Brill. The volumes make key public-health topics more accessible and reflect his broader work in science communication and public education. LAS congratulates Dr Mardon on this contribution to health literacy.
WACCI and the University of Ghana recognised Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah’s election as a LAS Fellow on 30 July 2026. A leading plant geneticist and WACCI Founding Director, his Fellowship opens opportunities for crop research and scientific cooperation with Liberia.
On 14 August 2026, Le Soleil reported that Prof. Balla Diop Ngom of UCAD has accepted Fellowship of the Liberia Academy of Sciences (LAS). A physicist and African Academy of Sciences Vice-President for West Africa, he is expected to support cooperation in nanomaterials, solar energy, and training for young scientists—areas aligned with Liberia’s renewable energy and research goals. LAS welcomes the regional recognition and looks forward to future scientific exchange.
On June 26, 2026, LAS President Dr. Emmanuel Fred joined the CPC 105th anniversary reception hosted by China’s Liberia Embassy at Ambassador Yin Chengwu’s invitation. The event united officials, diplomats and scholars to mark China-Liberia friendship. LAS hopes to expand cooperation with Chinese institutions in research, education, tech transfer and sustainable development, and thanked the embassy for supporting bilateral ties.
The Liberia Academy of Sciences (LAS) co-hosts a regional dialogue during UNESCO International Arts Education Week 2026 on 27 May 2026 in Monrovia (hybrid; free registration) with AOU, GYDCA, and IAOA, exploring Open Educational Resources (OER) for Africa's cultural and artistic heritage under "Openness · Heritage · Innovation: The Digital Future of Cultural and Arts Education in Africa."
